I'll be going to the Intro classes this month at the studio where I attend classes. The main differe nce between these and the other classes is that they will go at a slower pa ce and will tend to have more explanation about the basics and fundamentals of postures\, as well as breathing and meditation. \n\n \nYoga has many be nefits - mental\, physical\, emotional\, spiritual. You can regain flexibil ity\, build strength\, re-balance your body\, etc.\, and learn to push the edge on your limits\, which can become a spiritual practice in itself - a p ath to awareness and self-realization. How so? When you go deeper in a pose and your body starts to give fight or flight responses even though there i s no real danger\, do you give in to those impulses or can you keep your br eath even and steady? Does your mind scatter and go into panic mode or can you stay present and focused on the pose? Are you in touch with your body - can you distinguish between a lot of discomfort versus pain that signals true danger? You are not your body or your impulses. You are not your thoug hts or your emotions. With practice\, you can improve your control and thus transform your mind and your body into powerful tools rather than identify ing with them. The main difference between these and the other classes is that the y will go at a slower pace and will tend to have more explanation about the basics and fundamentals of postures\, as well as breathing and meditation. \n \nYoga has many benefits - mental\, physical\, emotional\, spiritual. Y ou can regain flexibility\, build strength\, re-balance your body\, etc.\, and learn to push the edge on your limits\, which can become a spiritual pr actice in itself - a path to awareness and self-realization. How so? When y ou go deeper in a pose and your body starts to give fight or flight respons es even though there is no real danger\, do you give in to those impulses o r can you keep your breath even and steady? Does your mind scatter and go into panic mode or can you stay present and focused on the pose? Are you in touch with your body - can you distinguish between a lot of discomfort ver sus pain that signals true danger? You are not your body or your impulses. You are not your thoughts or your emotions. With practice\, you can improve your control and thus transform your mind and your body into powerful tool s rather than identifying with them. It's a lifetime practice.\n \nThe word yoga has many meanings and sayings associated with it.
